eufyCam vs. eufyCam 2 — Differences Explained

eufy camera

Differences #1: Improved Sony Sensor – If you’re looking for better night vision, then eufyCam 2 is the one to pick since it comes with improved sensor for night time. Unfortunately, the original eufyCam has a standard sensor which actually does a pretty good job recording at night.

Differences #2: Motion Zones – With motion zones, you can create certain areas where you want the camera to monitor activity. They especially come in handy if you have a lot of side movements, like leaves on a tree, or passer-bys.

With the eufyCam 2, you can create motion zones, whereas with the original eufyCam you can only adjust the sensitivity, which sometimes is not enough.

Differences #3: Storage – Both cameras offer local storage so no need to worry about subscription plans. However, there’s a difference in a way they provide this storage: the original eufyCam uses a 16GB Micro SD Card whereas the eufyCam 2 uses 16GB eMMC which can store up to 3 months of recordings.

In addition, if you want to upgrade your storage you can use a bigger capacity SD card for the eufyCam 1 (up to 128GB) whereas the eufyCam 2 offers USB storage expansion. It’s worth noting that the USB storage expansion is not there yet, but support for it is coming soon.

Differences #4: Repeater Mode – eufy cameras need a homebase to work, and in the case with the eufyCam 2, the homebase works as a Wi-Fi repeater which boosts signal to your eufy cameras. Unfortunately, it only works as a repeater for eufy cameras, so for the rest of your tech, you might want to take a look at Wi-Fi mesh network systems.

Differences #5: HomeKit  – A convenient way to keep all your smart appliances in one app. So if you’re a Siri fan, then the eufyCam 2 is the way to go since the camera supports Homekit with HomeKit Secure Video.

Unfortunately, the original eufyCam doesn’t support HomeKit.
